The X is for Crappy
February 2, 2001
The XFL premieres tomorrow. There have been a lot of articles knocking it, mostly on the premise that it’s wrong for Vince McMahon to sell football on sex and violence. Whatever. I think it should be fun. The rules seem a bit weird but they do have quite a bit of failed NFL talent. Guys like Tommy Maddox, Rashaan Salaam, Alvin Harper, Casey Weldon and Mike Pawlawski are all guys I enjoyed watching while they were in college, so the quality of football shouldn’t be that bad. It should at least be better than anything but the very best college games. That said, I don’t know who they expect to be watching the main games on Saturday Night. I don’t know anyone that watches TV on Saturday night.
