My birthday is coming up, and I was thinking about how much I really wanted a professional grade Lucha Libre mask. I mean, how cool would it be to run around as Tiger Mask or Ultimo Dragon (pictured below). This would probably only be good for Halloween, but it’d probably be worth it. Hang out in a slacks and a nice shirt… and a Lucha Libre mask. Possibly throw a few flying elbows on unsuspecting trick or treaters.

I’m prepping a short presentation I have for tomorrow’s weekly staff meeting, and I am reminded of Jason Kottke‘s Best Powerpoint Slide Ever:

After five days, my DSL is finally, finally back online. I love broadband so much, it’s frightening. And after all my running around and testing and calling, my provider explains the problems as “I dunno. You just kinda fell off the network. And now you’re back. Beats me.” Coupled with my Vornado finally breaking down after ten years, my weekend was absolutely hellish.
Ah well. Considering this is the first outage I can blame on my ISP in two years, it’s not really that bad.
I connected by modem when I had to, and tried to do stuff with my life when I couldn’t. As a result, I ended up watching Pitch Black, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Center Stage this weekend. Pitch Black is a terrific low-budget Aliens clone. Jay and Silent Bob is really, really funny, but it may have the most tedious first half-hour of any movie I’ve ever seen. Center Stage is a ballet movie. It was on HBO, and I still can’t explain why I watched it. It was kind of like an afterschool special, with more dancing.
I also had dim-sum in Monterey Park, which made me happy at least an hour. Yay, dim sum.

So I’m riding the bus to work today when I see a dozen men dressed in black suits holding up cardboard signs at the bus stop. While this was strange enough, I actually read the signs:
The Truth is Majestic. Is it just a game?”
I thought Majestic was creepy enough when it faxed, e-mailed and left messages on your answering machine. The idea of scraggly men in black involved standing a block from my house pretty much makes me want to avoid it completely.
I’m just not ready for this level of immersion.

I fired up MAME for the first time in a while and ended up playing a whole session of Cyberball 2072.
To describe it simply… it is football with robots. Yes, it is as cool as it sounds. Instead of downs, the ball has a half-life. The ball gets closer to detonation the longer you hold it, and can only be defused by crossing the midfield stripe or the goal line.
So you have football played by robots with an exploding ball. What more could you ever want out of life?

New photos: Axel’s Going Away Bash
For some reason, DotComments won’t work, and is giving me a PHP error.
And on top of it all, Blogger is dog-ass slow for some reason.

I made some minor tweaks today. The biggest thing was changing the main body text from gray to… um, darker gray. The lighter gray (#666666, for those playing at home) looked nice, but was fairly difficult to read, especially in long blocks of text at 1600×1200 resolution. I was going to switch it to black, but that really threw off the rest of the website, as most of the rest of the colors were running with a softer contrast. So darker gray (#333333) was the final choice. Not WebSafe, but it should default to black for anyone that doesn’t have that color available.
But that’s enough talk about random font colors, don’t you think? I also changed the header graphics too. I stuck in a picture I took of my balcony view, just because the sunset had nice mix of blue and orange that day. If you don’t like the header, then just stick around. I’m sure I’ll change it again in a week or so.

Ugh. It looks different now.
I’m not sure if I like it or if I hate it, but I’m really, really glad I changed it. The template, style-sheets and what not are one of the Blogger defaults. I mixed it up with my old design and moved stuff around until I liked the way it looked. What do you think?

Holy sweet jesus. Samurai Jack just may well be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.
